Ensuring robust fire door systems across the North East
Fire doors are integral to your building’s fire safety strategy. They are specifically designed to delay flames and smoke from spreading through the building in the event of a fire, allowing the people inside to escape safely. Strict fire safety and building regulations are now in place across the UK, particularly concerning the maintenance, inspection, and installation of suitable fire doors at your property. Our team of highly trained, in-house engineers can complete all necessary works to ensure you have the correct specification in place, set-up to perform should an emergency arise.
As your BM TRADA accredited company, Door Support North East is certified to support schools, care homes, schools and any other environment where safeguarding is paramount. Based on your individual requirements, we can advise on which product may be best suited to environment and design a service and maintenance contract – as required by British Standards – to ensure your system does not falter. This will be accompanied with all the relevant paperwork, which is vital in keeping records of maintenance by competent persons. Reach our engineers to discuss the best approach for your building in Newcastle, Durham, Tyne & Wear, or further afield.
Fire door surveys
Our survey involves a 24-point inspection of the door, frame, architrave and fire stopping precautions to ensure the door is compliant with BS 8214:2016. Once complete, an in-depth report will be generated and presented to you outlining any required remedial tasks and information on the best solution to take.
Fire door maintenance and repairs
As with all systems, security doors and shutters included, fire doors are only effective if they are correctly installed and regularly maintained. That’s why regular servicing and inspections are required by the RRFSO (Fire Safety Order) 2005. Door Support North East can oversee the repair, service and maintenance of all makes and models of fire-rated doors for various applications and building types.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2005 states that:
“The responsible person must make sure that, where necessary in order to safeguard the safety of relevant persons, that fire precautions (Fire Doors) are maintained in good working order.” Art.17
“The responsible person must appoint one or more competent persons to assist them in undertaking the measure they need to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions of this Order”. Art.18
“A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or knowledge and other qualities to enable them to properly assist in the undertaking of preventative and protective measures. Art.18

We believe that the only way to ensure competence is accreditation through a third-party scheme such as a Q-Mark by BM Trada.
